Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata offense broke out in a big way on Sunday afternoon in their CSAC series finale against Cairn (6-15, 1-7 CSAC) as they had a season high 21 hits en route to an 18-5 victory which finished off the three-game weekend sweep. The Mighty Macs (11-8, 6-2 CSAC) now sit atop the CSAC standings after scoring 15 runs in the fifth through eighth innings this afternoon to run away with the win.
Junior shortstop
Ryan Ficca had a career day with four hits, and three RBIs to lead the Immaculata attack. Junior centerfielder
Rick DiDomenico (3-for-5, 2 R, RBI, SB, BB) had a great day to finish off a strong weekend with six RBIs.
Sophomore left fielder
Jason McCormick (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, R, 2B), junior first baseman
Mike Lascomb (2-for-4, R, RBI), sophomore catcher
Ryan Tecco (2-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBIs, SB, BB), and sophomore
Dom Ficca (2-for-2, R, RBI) all had two hits as 12 different Immaculata players had hits in the victory.
Freshman
Trevor O'Brien (2-1) had his second straight strong start, going six innings allowing four runs and four hits while striking out a career-high seven.
Cairn got the scoring started with a run in the top of the first, but the Macs scored three in their half to go in front 3-1. McCormick doubled to lead off and was brought home on an RBI single through the right side by
Ryan Ficca. After Ficca was picked off, DiDomenico singled and stole second before an RBI double off the bat of junior third baseman
Rob Wallace (1-for-2, BB, R, 2B, RBI) to put IU ahead. Immaculata would go on to score an unearned run as junior designated hitter
Matt Lawson (2 BB, 2 R) scored on a passed ball.
The Highlanders scored single runs in the second and third innings to tie the game. O'Brien then settled in and had back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the fourth and fifth innings, and the Immaculata offense got going again in the fifth to put IU in front for good.
In the fifth, they scored five runs with two outs and sent 10 hitters to the plate to take command at 8-3 through five innings. IU had the bases loaded on walks with one out and following a foul out, IU was in need of a big hit to take advantage with two outs. Tecco delivered the first two-run single to right field and freshman second baseman
Pat Devenney (1-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBIs, BB) did the same with one of his own up the middle.
Ryan Ficca added an RBI single to finish off the inning.
Cairn got one back in O'Brien's final inning of work, but Immaculata put the game away in the sixth with eight runs on seven singles as 13 hitters went to the plate. Wallace was hit by a pitch to start and freshman pinch runner
Coleman Richards (RBI, SB, 2 R) stole second to get into scoring position and moved to third on a groundout. Sophomore right fielder
Howie Kalamets (1-for-3, RBI, 2 BB, 2 R, 2 SB) walked and on a steal attempt, an errant throw by the catcher allowed Richards to score. An RBI single by Lascomb brought home another run and Tecco followed with a single before a walk by Devenney to load the bases with one out.
McCormick brought one home with a sacrifice fly, and then with two outs the Macs had five consecutive RBI singles off the bats of
Ryan Ficca, DiDomenico, Richards, freshman
Collin Stringham, and Kalamets to push the advantage to 16-4.
Stringham then pitched a scoreless seventh and the Macs added another in the bottom of the inning on another sacrifice fly by McCormick.
The teams traded runs in the eighth with IU scoring on an RBI double by
Dom Ficca to get to the final of 18-5.
Immaculata will now look to win their sixth consecutive CSAC game tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy for a 3 p.m. start.
