IU got started with three runs in the first on an RBI ground out by DiDomenico (3 RBIs, R), an RBI triple to right field by Wallace, and then an RBI groundout by senior designated hitter
Matt Lawson brought Wallace home with a groundout.
Whalen had a 1-2-3 inning before an RBI double by McCormick to left field brought home another run in the top of the second as IU led 4-0 through two innings.
In the third, the offensive attack continued with three more runs, highlighted by an RBI double by Wallace, his second extra base hit of the day as IU led 7-0. Whalen went on to strike out the side in the third as he continued to shut down the Highlanders.
Cairn got their only run in the fourth, and the Mighty Macs responded with three runs in the fifth to halt a comeback attempt.
The Mighty Macs finished off the scoring in the seventh with two more runs on DiDomenico's third RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly as IU closed out the 12-1 win.
In game two, Immaculata staked sophomore starter
Adam Wheatley to a two-run lead with two in the first. DiDomenico (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) hit an RBI single to left, and sophomore catcher
Dom Ficca (1-for-3, RBI) followed with an RBI infield single to put the Macs up 2-0.
However, Cairn came back with two in the first to tie the game up 2-2.
As they did in game one, the Macs came back with a run in the second to re-take the lead and stop the Highlander momentum. DiDomenico brought home Lascomb (1-for-3, R) with an RBI groundout to put the Macs in front 3-2. The IU offense then struggled to put any rallies together, but Wheatley (1-1) kept Cairn at bay.
He went on to throw 4 2/3 innings, giving up just two runs while striking out two. Sophomore reliever
Kenny Anderson got the final out of the fifth with the tying run on second to keep IU in the lead.
After Anderson sat down Cairn in order in the sixth, Devenney scored on a wild pitch to add an important insurance run for a 4-2 lead.
Anderson continued his dominance by retiring the final three hitters of the day as he faced seven hitters and got all seven out to clinch the doubleheader sweep.
Immaculata will play Cairn in the series finale tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Immaculata.
