Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's lacrosse team won a thriller on Sunday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium to grab their first win of the season when freshman Brendan Doyle took a pass from freshman Mike Reardon and scored while falling to the ground 1:05 into the second overtime to lift the Mighty Macs (1-5) over Mount Saint Vincent, 13-12.  The overtime win was the first in program history in a game that was tight the whole way with seven ties and four lead changes.

Reardon had a career-day for the Macs with eight points on three goals and a team-best five assists.  Sophomore Ben Lerario (one assists) and freshman Tyler Black (two assists) each had a career-high three goals, while Doyle had two goals, including the game-winner.  Sophomores Sam Zingaro (one assist) and Doug Hughes (two assists) had one goal each as Immaculata scored their most goals in a game since the season finale in 2014.

Lerario had a team-high seven groundballs, and sophomores Joe Sullivan and Jonathan Hurlburt had three caused turnovers apiece.  Junior Christian Constantine stepped into the face-off circle and went 12-for-23 for the Macs.

Sophomore Christian Custodio got his first career start in the cage and made 11 saves, including a few late in the game to give IU a chance for the game-winner in the extra period.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Mighty Macs trailed the Dolphins (0-4), 9-8, but that would be the last time they trailed the rest of the afternoon.  Black scored his third of the day on a feed from Lerario, before Reardon scored back-to-back goals on assists from Zingaro and Hughes to put IU in front 11-9 with 8:48 remaining in the game.  The Dolphins scored to make it a one-goal game, but Doyle netted his first of the day on a dish from Reardon to stake the Macs to a 12-10 lead with 4:10 remaining.

IU continued to lead by two until the Dolphins scored two goals in a 1:08 span to tie the game 12-12 with 52 seconds to go.

The game remain tied through regulation to send it to overtime where each team had chances, but neither side netted the game winner in the first extra session, which sent the game to double overtime.

In the second extra session, the Mighty Macs possessed the ball the entire time until they found an opening when Reardon had the ball to the right of the cage and fired a pass across the front of the net to Doyle who found the top corner while falling to the ground to give IU the thrilling 13-12 win.

Immaculata started the game with a goal, but the Dolphins scored five straight to take a 5-1 lead, the biggest for either team in the game.  The Macs responded with four consecutive goals from Lerario, Hughes, Reardon, and Zingaro to tie the game 5-5 with 9:54 to go in the first half.  The teams would exchange goals to finish out the first half with Lerario scoring his second of the opening 30 minutes to send the game to the locker room tied 6-6.

Lerario again scored to start the second half, but the Dolphins scored two which put them up 8-7 with 4:28 left in the third quarter.  Black got his second goal of the game just 29 seconds later, but Mount Saint Vincent got another goal with less than two minutes left in the third quarter to send the game to the final period with the Dolphins in front 9-8.

The Mighty Macs will look to build on their first win of the season when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy for their CSAC opener on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
