Kelly Lapp and
Allison Jakavick both reached career milestones as they scored their 100
th career goals to help lead the Mighty Macs (3-3, 1-0 CSAC) to a victory over Notre Dame (1-1, 0-1 CSAC) in their Colonial States Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday night at Draper Walsh Stadium, 17-2. They became the sixth and seventh players to accomplish the feat in program history.
Lapp led all Mighty Mac goal scorers on the night with five goals and added two assists, while senior
Danielle Lopez added six points with four goals and two assists. Jakavick had four goals and one assist herself and junior
Shannon Neill had a team-best four assists. Freshman
Hannah Verrecchia added two goals while senior Sam Bonvetti and freshman
Rosemarie Reitman each chipped in with a goal.
Jakavick led the team with eight groundballs and Bonvetti led the squad with six caused turnovers and six groundballs.
The Mighty Macs scored the first 10 goals of the game and never looked back en route to the victory. Lapp needed three goals to reach the century mark, while Jakavick needed just one and they both achieved the feat in the first half.
Lopez and Lapp alternated scoring the first four goals of the game to stake IU to a 4-0 advantage just eight minutes in. After Verrecchia scored her first of the day, Lapp found the back of the net at the 14:39 mark for the 100
th of her career and a 6-0 lead.
Bonvetti then earned a free position opportunity and converted before Reitman did the same to push the lead to 8-0. Just 25 seconds later, Jakavick had a free position shot of her own and converted for the 100
th goal of her career to make it 9-0.
Lapp would score once more before half on Neill's second assist, and the Gators got on the board just before halftime to make it 10-1 at the break.
After the Gators scored the first goal of the half, the Macs would score the final seven of the game to run away with the CSAC win. Lapp scored her fifth of the game and team-best 20
th of the season at the 25:20 mark before three straight from Jakavick.
It was then Lopez's turn to score two straight, and Verrecchia finished off the scoring to send Immaculata to the 17-2 victory.
The Mighty Macs will look to make it two straight conference wins with a tough road test on Saturday at Neumann at 1 p.m.
NOTES: Lopez moved into 3
rd on the all-time scoring list with 171 points, passing former teammate
Katie Cook (2011-14) … Lapp has now caused the most turnovers in program history with 84.
