Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team opened their home schedule at Draper Walsh Stadium on Saturday afternoon and bounced back from a season-opening defeat with a 13-8 victory over visiting Rutgers-Camden (0-1). The Mighty Macs (1-1) outscored the Scarlet Raptors, 9-4, in the second half to break open a tie game at halftime and get the non-conference victory.
Junior
Allison Jakavick had a big day with six points, including five goals, and fellow junior
Kelly Lapp added four goals and one assist. Senior
Danielle Lopez had two goals, while sophomore
Carleigh Dabritz had one goal and freshman
Rosemarie Reitman scored the first of her career. For the second consecutive game, sophomore goalie
Christine McIntyre had 13 saves, including a few impressive ones in the second half.
Freshman
Hannah Verrecchia had a team-high seven groundballs and Lapp added six groundballs and a team-best seven caused turnovers.
Defense ruled the game in the first half as each team scored four goals. Rutgers-Camden scored the first, but Reitman and Lopez scored to go in front. The Scarlet Raptors scored the next two to take the lead, but Jakavick and Lapp scored two of the next three goals to send the game to the locker room tied 4-4.
Jakavick scored again 1:19 into the second half, but Rutgers-Camden tied it three minutes later. The Mighty Macs then took control of the game as they held the Scarlet Raptors scoreless for 11:53 and scored four goals of their own to take a 9-5 lead. Dabritz and Jakavick scored within 38 seconds of each other followed by a goal from Lopez and Jakavick again at the 14:58 mark.
The Scarlet Raptors scored two goals to make it a 9-7 game, but IU responded 20 seconds later with a goal from Lapp to extend their lead back to three goals. The Macs would score three consecutive goals, two by Lapp and one by Jakavick, to put the game away.
Immauclata will look to make it two straight next Thursday when they travel to Penn State-Abington for a 4 p.m. game.
