Mighty Macs Fall In 2015 Season Opener, 19-10

Box Score
IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's lacrosse team dropped its home and season opener to Catholic University, 19-10, on Saturday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.

Freshman Brendan Doyle had an impressive debut for the Macs with six points on two goals an four assists, while freshman Mike Reardon, freshman Tyler Black, and junior Michael Thompson (1 assist) had two goals as well.  Sophomore Sam Zingaro had a goal and freshman Cole Waldron had the first two points of his career with a goal and an assist.

Freshman Riley Cocks was 13-for-27 on faceoffs and tied for a team-high with four groundballs along with Doyle and sophomore Ben Lerario.  Sophomore Jonathan Hurlburt had a team-best three caused turnovers.

The game started great for IU as Reardon scored the game's first two goals, his first off an assist from Doyle and the second while falling to ground, to give the Macs a 2-0 lead just 1:22 into the game. However, the Cardinals (4-1) tallied 10 unanswered points to post a 10-2 lead midway through the second quarter that proved insurmountable.

Black added his first career goal to halt Catholic's scoring streak at 10 and Thompson would later score, but the Cardinals took a 14-4 lead into intermission. In the second half, the Mighty Macs (0-1) outscored Catholic 6-5, but the Cardinals were able to hold on for the 19-10 victory.

After Doyle and Thompson scored in the third quarter, the Macs outscored Catholic 4-2 to close out the game in the fourth quarter.  IU took advantage of their first EMO of the game on a goal from Doyle and they followed that up with a goal from Waldron in a man-down situation.  Black finished off the scoring with 1:58 to go on an impressive, individual-effort goal.

In the goal, sophomore Don Schiffer had seven saves in the first half of action while sophomore Brien Cullen played the second half and made four stops.

Immaculata will return to action on Wednesday, March 4, when they travel to face Delaware Valley College. Face-off is set for 7 pm.
