Women's Basketball Holds On For 51-47 Win Against Summit

Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. – Spurred by 28 points from Reilly Larkin, Immaculata women's basketball won its second-straight contest and improved to 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) with its 51-47 victory against Summit inside Alumnae Hall Saturday afternoon.
 
Larkin added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals to her career-high 28 points. Theresa Walsh finished with 10 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Dia Veneziano also grabbed nine rebounds and had four points. Elizabeth McBride handed out three assists, and Bailey Krewson led with four steals while adding seven rebounds and two assists.
 
Both teams started slow as the Mighty Macs got a three from Larkin right out of the gate, but cooled down after that. The Lady Defenders did not score until 4:05 remaining in the first period which made the score 3-2. The teams traded baskets and the lead before Larkin threw up a 3-pointer at the buzzer that went in for Immaculata to end the opening period ahead, 10-8.
 
The lead went back-and-forth during the first four minutes of the second period before Larkin nailed another three to grab a 15-13 edge for the Mighty Macs with 6:23 before halftime. Summit did not score from the field following its layup by Carissa Erdman with 4:30 to play making it 17-15, and Immaculata outscored Summit, 9-2, during the final 2:07 of the first half.
 
Larkin scored the first 17 points for the Mighty Macs (2-5, 2-0 CSAC), and had 20 of Immaculata's 26 points during the first half.
 
Immaculata pushed its lead to 10 three times during the opening part of the third period with the last coming with 4:22 left (32-22). Summit eventually cut its deficit to six by the end of the third period, 36-30.
 
The Lady Defenders (1-3, 0-2 CSAC) continued to chip at the Mighty Macs' lead as Torri Erdman had a layup with 4:35 remaining in the contest that made it a one-point game (42-41). Immaculata was able to go on a seven-point run as Tess Kieffer started the spurt with a three-point play and capped it with two made free throws as the Mighty Macs led 49-41 with 2:47 left.
 
Four made free throws and a layup from Callie Kitowski brought Summit within two (49-47) with 41 seconds to play. The Lady Defenders went on defense and forced Immaculata into a turnover and then used the new rule of advancing the ball to try to even the game with 10.9 seconds left. After Summit missed the shot and Larkin grabbed the rebound, the Lady Defenders sent Larkin to the foul line where she buried both shots with just 3.2 ticks left. Summit again used a timeout to advance the ball but Larkin swiped the inbounds pass and the Mighty Macs claimed the 51-47 win.
 
Immaculata will play at Bryn Mawr next Saturday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m.
