IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University baseball team has qualified for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship for the second time in program history and first since the 2011 season. The Mighty Macs enter the postseason as the third seed and begin play on Wednesday, May 7, at 2 p.m. traveling to second-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University.

Immaculata (20-12, 11-7 CSAC) swept the season series from Gwynedd Mercy (18-16-1, 12-6) just this past weekend. The Mighty Macs won the three games with scores of 2-1, 5-2, and 11-3.

The last time the Mighty Macs qualified for the CSAC Championship in 2011 they also earned the third seed and traveled to Gwynedd Mercy for the opening game. Immaculata and Gwynedd Mercy were tied at 11-11 at the end of nine innings, and the Mighty Macs were able to score in the top of the 10th to win the game, 12-11. Immaculata and Gwynedd Mercy met in an elimination game later during the 2011 championship where the Griffins knocked the Mighty Macs out of the tournament, 6-4. Â

The Mighty Macs are led by senior shortstop
Joe DiGiaimo, who is batting .333 with 35 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 27 runs scored, and 27 RBIs. DiGiaimo is also 12-for-14 in stolen base attempts. Junior
Matt Lawson is second on the team with a .324 batting average, and
Rob Wallace is hitting .305 with 29 hits, six doubles, one home run, 20 runs scored and 19 RBIs.

Starting pitcher
Dan Whalen (4-0) has a 2.61 earned run average in 48.1 innings across nine appearances, including eight starting assignments, one complete game and 52 strikeouts. The Mighty Macs have also gotten quality starts this season from
John Pedorenko (3-1) with a 3.00 ERA,
Adam Wheatley (4-2) with a 5.10 ERA and
John Ryan (3-2), who has a 7.14 ERA.

Immaculata's bullpen is led by a reliever
Nick Campione (2-2), who has a 2.17 ERA in 16 appearances and 29.0 innings. He also has seven saves this season.
Greg Binfield has been another shutdown pitcher out of the pen for the Mighty Macs with a 2.57 ERA in 17 appearances.

In the other first round game on Wednesday, top-seeded Keystone College hosts fourth-seeded Neumann University at 3 p.m.
