Box Score 2 IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University baseball punched its ticket to the 2014 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament as it swept the doubleheader against Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs went nine innings in the opener before finally winning 2-1, and Immaculata broke open the second game in the late innings for the 5-2 victory.
Immaculata led off the ninth inning with
Rob Wallace getting hit by a pitch.
Eli Vottero then singled through the left side.
Patrick Boulware successfully put down a bunt and was able to beat out the throw to load the bases.
Alex Kobylinski then played the hero as he singled into left field for the walk-off as Wallace scored the winning run.
It was a scoreless game until the top of the seventh when the Griffins loaded the bases and pushed across the first run with a hit batter.
Immaculata answered in the bottom of the inning with a walk by Vottero. Kobylinski then had a pinch-hit single down the left field line to advance Vottero to third. Michael Lascomb then bunted for a single and Vottero scored the tying run.
Dan Whalen started and pitched 6.1 innings allowing six hits, one run and struck out five.
Nick Campione came in and went the last 2.2 innings to pick up the win with just one hit and six strikeouts.
Jason McCormick, Vottero, Kobylinksi and Comito each had two hits to lead an 11-hit effort by the Mighty Macs.
In the nightcap, it was a 2-2 game heading to the fifth inning when Immaculata scored two runs in the bottom of the inning for its first lead of the game. Comito singled but the Mighty Macs had to do their scoring with two outs and a runner on second. McCormick had a RBI single through the left side and
Rick DiDomenico followed with another RBI single up the middle as Immaculata led, 4-2.
The Mighty Macs added an insurance run in the sixth when Wallace was again hit by a pitch and later stole second. Vottero singled up the middle to plate Wallace.
Adam Wheatley started and went five innings earning the win. He gave up four hits, two runs and struck out two.
Chris Goggin pitched one inning allowing just one hit.
Josh Pedorenko got the save as he pitched the seventh inning with just one hit.
Immaculata hosts Gwynedd Mercy again on Sunday at noon in a single game.
