Mighty Macs Drops Game To Gwynedd Mercy

IMMACULATA, Pa. – A second-half surge by Gwynedd Mercy University lifted the visitors past Immaculata University's men's lacrosse team, 16-5, on Wednesday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game.
 
The Mighty Macs (0-11, 0-4 CSAC) kept right with the Griffins (8-3, 4-0 CSAC) during the first quarter. After Gwynedd Mercy scored two early goals, Immaculata answered with tallies from Doug Hughes and Bhelly Bagbonon less than one minute apart for a tie game (2-2) with 9:42 to play in the quarter.
 
Gwynedd Mercy scored with 4:39 remaining in the first quarter to lead 3-2 at the horn.
 
The Griffins outscored the Mighty Macs during the second quarter, 3-1, but only held a 6-3 advantage at halftime. Immaculata received its second-quarter goal from Michael Thompson.
 
Gwynedd Mercy pulled away in the second half with eight-straight goals. The Griffins scored five goals in the third quarter and opened the final period of play with the first three.
 
Immaculata scored twice during the fourth quarter as Hughes scored on a behind the back shot that came from Bagbonon, and Bagbonon closed the scoring with an unassisted goal.
 
Hughes and Bagbonon each finished with two goals while Bagbonon added two assists. Thompson had the one goal, and Rocco Piliero was credited with one assist.
 
Immaculata started Donald Schiffer in goal and he played the first 50 minutes making nine saves while allowing 14 goals. Christian Custodio played the final 10 minutes with four saves and two goals allowed.
 
Immaculata hosts Marywood on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Mighty Macs final home CSAC contest this season.
