GRANTHAM, Pa.-The Immaculata baseball team had an offensive outburst at Messiah (10-9) on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference contest, where they pounded out a season-high 18 hits on their way to a 12-8 victory.  The Mighty Macs (9-9) had five players with three hits, while freshman left fielder Howie Kalamets (3-for-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBIs) and senior shortstop Joe DiGiaimo (3-for-5, 2 R, SB, 2 RBIs, HR) each blasted their second home run of the season.

Freshman second baseman Nick Comito (2 R, RBI, SB, 2B), sophomore designated hitter Rick DiDomenico (3 RBIs, SB, R), and junior rightfielder Matt Lawson (R, SB) were the other Mighty Macs with three hits, while senior third baseman Eli Vottero (2 R, RBI) also had two hits.

As a team, the Mighty Macs stole seven bases to give them 73 thus far this season.

Freshman pitcher Dom Cocco earned his first career victory with five innings of work, giving up three earned runs and striking out two.

Trailing 3-0 heading to their at bat in the top of the second, Immaculata put up five runs to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way.  Kalamets and Comito had back-to-back RBI hits before an RBI groundout off the bat of freshman catcher Ryan Tecco.  DiDomenico then put the Mighty Macs in front for good with a two-out, two-run single for a 5-3 advantage.

Cocco surrendered an unearned run in the bottom of the third, but Kalamets got the run right back in the top of the fourth with a lead-off home run to left field, his second of the season.

In the top of the fifth, DiGiaimo tied Kalamets for the team-lead in home runs with his eight career home run, a two-run shot to right center field.  Kalamets got his third RBI of the day on a single to left-center later in the frame to put IU up 9-4.

Cocco closed out the day with two shutout innings, but Messiah would get two runs off sophomore reliever Mike Campisano in the sixth to make it 9-6.

Yet again, Immaculata got the two runs back quickly as DiGiaimo scored after a double and error, before Vottero hit a sacrifice fly to put the Mighty Macs lead at 11-6.

In the eighth, DiDomenico got his third RBI of the day with his second RBI single of the day.

The Mighty Macs would hold on for the 12-8 non-conference victory.

Immaculata will shift back to conference play this weekend starting with one game at Cairn on Friday at 3 p.m. before hosting the Highlanders for a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
