Box Score ROSEMONT, Pa. – Rosemont College scored with just nine seconds left in regulation to break a 12-12 tie, and the hosts held on for the 13-12 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victory against Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon.
Immaculata received five goals and two assists from
Bhelly Bagbonon, and
Rocco Piliero added three goals and one assist.
Michael Thompson scored two goals,
Doug Hughes had one goal and two assists, and
Jonathan Kopistecki recorded one goal.
Donald Schiffer started the game in goal for the Mighty Macs and played a little over 52 minutes allowing nine goals and making four saves. Brian Cullen played the other seven-plus minutes giving up four goals and not recording a save.
Immaculata (0-10, 0-3 CSAC) led 8-7 heading into the final quarter of play, which saw an offensive explosion by both teams as they combined for 10 goals. Rosemont scored the tying goal just 26 seconds into the fourth quarter, but Immaculata answered just one minute later to retake the lead.
After Thompson's goal to give the Mighty Macs the 9-8 edge, the Ravens scored four consecutive goals to take their first lead of the game with just over five minutes to play, 12-9.
In a span of just 1:19, Piliero scored twice and Bagbonon delivered the tying goal to bring the Mighty Macs back with 3:03 left in the game. Just when it appeared the game was headed into overtime, Dean Grisoff scored his only goal of the game with nine seconds left to lift the Ravens (3-7, 1-2 CSAC) to the win.
Immaculata started the game on a three-goal run for the early lead by the 8:34 mark. Bagbonon, Thompson and Kopistecki all scored during the opening seven minutes. Rosemont scored a goal late in the first quarter, but it was the Mighty Macs with a 3-1 edge at the end of the first stanza.
The Mighty Macs got back-to-back goals from Bagbonon to start the second-quarter scoring as they extended their lead to 5-1 with 8:50 to play in the opening half. Rosemont scored two goals to trim Immaculata's lead to 5-3. However, Piliero found the back of the net with just eight seconds to play that sent Immaculata into halftime with a 6-3 advantage.
Hughes scored Immaculata's first goal of the second half with 12:07 remaining in the third quarter which extended its lead to 7-3. During a six-minute span, Rosemont scored four goals, all on the stick of Stephen Licata, and tied the contest at 7-7, with 4:04 left in the third quarter.
Bagbonon gave Immaculata the lead (8-7) heading into the final quarter as he scored with just 22 ticks remaining.
Immaculata hosts Gwynedd Mercy on April 9 at 4 p.m. in a CSAC contest.
