Mighty Macs Drop Series Opener At Keystone, 9-5

Box Score

LA PLUME, Pa.- After two weeks off from CSAC games, the Mighty Macs (7-8, 1-3 CSAC) travelled to Keystone (8-9, 5-0 CSAC) for the start of a three-game weekend series, and the Giants scored six runs in the first three innings and Immaculata was unable to catch up as they dropped the opener, 9-5.  Sophomore right fielder Rob Wallace (1-for-3, 2 RBIs, R) hit the first home run of his career, a two-run shot in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.

Freshman second baseman Jason McCormick (2-for-5, 2 R, SB) and sophomore center fielder Rick DiDomenico (2-for-5, R, RBI) each collected two of the seven Mighty Mac hits to lead the offensive attack.

Sophomore John Ryan (1-2) started on the mound for Immaculata, but struggled as he surrendered five runs in two innings of work, before giving way to sophomore Matt Dolan.

After surrendering a run in the bottom of the third to make it 6-0 Keystone, Dolan kept the Giants off the scoreboard for the next three innings to allow Immaculata a chance to claw back into the game.

The Mighty Macs offense started slowly, as they didn't register a hit until the seventh inning, but they had threats with the help of seven walks and two hit batters, but were unable to get on the board until the seventh.

Sophomore Mike Sciasci (2 BB) walked with one out and moved to second on an infield hit by McCormick.  DiDomenico then laced a single to centerfield to score Sciasci and get the Mighty Macs on the board at 6-1.  Senior shortstop Joe DiGiaimo (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) would add another run with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Keystone finally got to Dolan in the seventh as he surrendered a leadoff home run before allowing the next two to reach base which spelled the end of Dolan's day.  Freshman pitcher Chris Goggin retired all three hitters he faced and allowed one more run to score to make it 8-2 through seven innings.  Dolan scattered six hits over four innings of work.

Keystone added another run in the eighth off freshman Kyle Bacher to make it 9-2 heading to the last inning.

In the ninth, DiGiaimo hit an RBI single before Wallace's first career long ball to bring it to the final of 9-5.

Immaculata will look to get back on the winning side in CSAC play tomorrow when they host the Giants for a noon doubleheader.
