Box Score HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — The Mighty Macs baseball team traveled to Centenary College (16-14, 6-8 CSAC) Friday afternoon to open a pivotal three-game series with the Cyclones. Immaculata (16-11, 7-6 CSAC) was led by senior
Joe DiGiaimo with a team-high five RBIs while blasting a grand slam to give Immaculata the edge, 12-6.
Immaculata got out to an early lead in the third inning when
Eli Vottero (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) walked and later came around to score on a wild pitch.
Nick Comito (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) and
Jason McCormick (2 R, SB) both reached base safely in the inning and also scored to put the Macs up, 3-0.
In the next inning of play, the Mighty Macs struck again when
Howie Kalamets (1-for- 4, R) led off the inning with a single through the left side and then scored on a triple off the bat of Vottero, who would then score later in the frame. Immaculata led 5-0 heading into the fifth.
John Ryan (3-2) took the mound for the Mighty Macs and did not disappoint, throwing an impressive five innings, surrendering only one earned run while striking out two.
The sixth inning was the big one for the visiting Mighty Macs, with
Patrick Boulware (1-for-3, 2B) leading off the inning with a double to center field, followed by a single and a walk from Comito and McCormick, respectively. DiGiaimo (1-for-4, GS, 5 RBIs) then stepped in with the bases loaded and demolished a ball over the fence in left giving the visitors a 10-1 advantage.
Immaculata would then give up four runs over the next two innings until they tacked on two of its own in the ninth, coming off a double from freshman
Matt Pagano (1-for-1, RBI) that scored
Rick DiDomenico (2-for-4, RBI, 2 R). Vottero then added a RBI single to cap off the ninth. The Cyclones comeback attempt fell short as they scored once in the final inning.
Immaculata looks to sweep Centenary as they host the Cyclones for the final two games of the series tomorrow beginning at 12 p.m.
