Box Score BALTIMORE, Md.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (8-7, 5-3 CSAC) clinched a home game in the CSAC Quarterfinals for the second season in a row with an offensive outburst in a 22-12 victory over Notre Dame (2-11, 1-7 CSAC) on Wednesday afternoon in their regular season finale.
The Mighty Macs hosted their first home playoff game in team history last season in a 16-4 victory over Notre Dame as the no. 4 seed, and they will be fourth again as they host the fifth-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins on Saturday, April 26
th at 1 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
In today's game, sophomore
Shannon Neill led the Mighty Macs with nine points on five goals and four assists. Sophomores
Allison Jakavick (5 G, A) and
Kelly Lapp (4 G, 2 A) had six points each, while senior
Katie Cook had four points on two goals and two assists.
Freshman
Kirsten Jensen had a career-high three goals, and junior
Danielle Lopez had two goals in the win.
Neill and Cook surpassed their teammate
Alyssa Petito as the all-time assists leader in program history and are tied with 51 each.
Unlike recent victories, the Mighty Macs got off to a slow start and trailed 3-1 a little more than 12 minutes into the game with a goal from Jensen as the only tally.
Immaculata quickly snapped out of the sluggish start by scoring 10 consecutive goals over the next 10:30 to take an 11-3 lead. Lapp and Neill each scored back-to-back goals for the first four followed by single tallies by Lopez, Lapp, Jakavick, and Cook. Neill and Lapp would score one more time each to cap the run.
The Gators came back to with goals to cut it to 11-5, but Lopez and Neill scored before the end of the half to give Immaculata a 13-5 lead going to the locker room.
Notre Dame started the second half fast by scoring six of the first eight goals to trim the Immaculata lead all the way down to four at 15-11 with 20 minutes to go in the game.
Immaculata responded again with four straight goals with Jensen scoring two of them to balloon the advantage back to eight at 19-11. Notre Dame scored once more with 12 minutes to go, but that was their final tally of the game. Jakavick scored twice and Cook scored once to close out the game with Immaculata winning 22-12.
Sophomore
Lucy Hud (3-0) got her third victory in net with a career-high 14 saves.
Immaculata will now set their sights on the postseason and their quarterfinal matchup with the Griffins on April 26
th at 1 p.m.
