Box Score ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University's men's lacrosse team was unable to come up with a victory in its final Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest Wednesday afternoon as the visiting Mighty Macs were defeated by Neumann University, 11-9.
Bhelly Bagbonon led the Mighty Macs with three goals and one assist while
Doug Hughes and
Michael Thompson each scored two goals.
Rocco Piliero and
Ben Lerario added one goal apiece.
Neumann (5-9, 2-3 CSAC) led 2-0 early before Immaculata got on the scoreboard. The Mighty Macs scored their first goal with four minutes remaining in the first half as Thompson netted his first tally. After the Knights scored another goal, Hughes netted his first goal as the Mighty Macs were down just 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Immaculata (0-13, 0-6 CSAC) outscored Neumann 5-2 during the second quarter, and the Mighty Macs went into halftime with the 7-5 lead.
Lerario scored just eight seconds into the stanza to tie the game at 3-3. Bagbonon's first goal of the day with 12:36 left in the quarter gave Immaculata its first lead of the contest, but Neumann tied the game at 4-all with 11:16 to play. Thompson's second goal with 8:28 remaining in the quarter handed the Mighty Macs the lead once again, and the visitors would hold the lead the rest of the period. Bagbonon scored again with 3:03 to go, and Hughes tallied with 1:18 to play in the half, which extended Immaculata's lead to 7-4. Neumann scored with 21 seconds left in the half to go into intermission down just two goals.
Neumann tied the game at 7-7 with 12:08 to play in the third quarter, and the quarter would end with the teams knotted at 7-all.
The Knights broke the tie 20 seconds into the fourth quarter, and held the lead the rest of the way. Neumann scored the first four goals of the stanza to lead 11-7 with 3:20 left in the game. Bagbonon and Piliero scored back-to-back goals just 16 seconds apart to trail just 11-9 with 2:16 to play, but the Mighty Macs could not complete the comeback.
Donald Schiffer played a complete game in goal for the Mighty Macs making 12 saves.
Immaculata plays its season finale on Thursday, April 24, at 4 p.m. against Bryn Athyn.
