Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team clinched their second consecutive CSAC postseason berth with a 21-11 victory on Senior Day over Gwynedd Mercy (6-8, 3-3 CSAC) on Saturday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium. With a win on Wednesday at Notre Dame, Immaculata would lock up a home game in the CSAC Quarterfinals for the second consecutive year.
The Mighty Macs got big performances from junior
Danielle Lopez, who had six goals and moved into fourth place on the all-time goals list, and sophomore
Kelly Lapp, who had seven points on five goals and two assists. Senior
Katie Cook had three goals and two assists, while sophomore
Allison Jakavick got the 100
th point of her career with three goals of her own. Sophomore
Shannon Neill (one assists) and senior
Mandy Grahn each had two goals apiece as the Mighty Macs registered a season-high in goals with 21.
Behrndt had five saves in net to get over 200 stops in her career and the victory also gave her 16 wins, tying her for the most in school history by a goalie.
Lapp scooped up a team-high five groundballs and Lopez controlled a team-best eight draws.
The teams battled back and forth early before a first half run by IU put the game out of reach.
Lopez scored on an assist from Cook for the first goal of the game, but Gwynedd's Kelsey Yori responded just 17 second later to knot the game at 1-1. Lopez would score her second goal of the game on a free position shot four minutes into the game and Grahn scored her first of the day a minute later to stake Immaculata to a lead they wouldn't give up the rest of the way.
Yori would score twice more over the next three minutes with Lopez scoring in between to trim the Mighty Mac lead back to one goal at 4-3.
That's when Immaculata ripped off seven straight goals over the next 17 minutes to put the game comfortably in hand at 11-3. Lopez scored the first goal of the run (her fourth of the game so far) before back-to-back goals by Cook and back-to-back goals by Lapp extended the Immaculata lead. Cook and Grahn would score once more to cap the run with the Mighty Macs up by eight.
Gwynedd finally put an end to the run and each team would score four more times in the final five minutes to make it 15-7 going to the locker room. Neill, Lapp, Jakavick, and Lopez, who had five goals in the first half, provided the tallies.
In the second half, Immaculata made sure Gwynedd didn't make an early run by scoring the first four goals to make it a 12-goal advantage at 19-7 five minutes in. Neill, Lopez, and Lapp (twice) each scored to put the game out of reach.
Gwynedd would score the next three, but Jakavick scored the next two goals to make her the third Mighty Mac in the past week to reach the 100-point plateau for her career.
Gwynedd would score once more, but Immaculata took home the 21-11 CSAC victory.
Immaculata looks to lock up home field advantage on Wednesday with a road trip to Notre Dame for their regular season finale in a 4 p.m. start.
