IMMACULATA, Pa.—The Mighty Mac's men's lacrosse team hosted Misericordia for their home opener of the 2014 season at Draper Walsh Stadium and the visiting Cougars topped the Mighty Macs 15-11.
In the first quarter, the Cougars opened the scoring with six straight goals before the Mighty Mac's
Bhelly Bagbonon (4 goals, 3 assists) notched a goal with 2:20 left in the quarter. Immaculata did not stop there, scoring two consecutive goals to close out the quarter scored by
Doug Hughes (1 goal, 2 assists) and
Rocco Piliero (1 goal).
The second quarter started in a bit of a lull, until the Cougars struck with two goals of their own.
Bhelly Bagbonon capped off the scoring with a goal with just less than 10 seconds to go in the quarter, the defense stiffened allowing only two goals while letting up six in the previous.
Scoring picked up for both teams in the third quarter, with eight total goals being scored between the teams. The Cougars rattled off three straight before
Michael Thompson (2 goals) netted one for the Mighty Macs off an assist from Bagbonon with just less than seven minutes to go. Misericordia then fired back with two of their own until
Jonathan Kopistecki (2 goals) tallied a goal off an assist from
Doug Hughes.
Luc Minnich (1 goal) added a goal from his knees with four seconds on the clock.
The fourth quarter began with the Mighty Macs running on all cylinders scoring three straight goals, totaling five consecutive going back to the third quarter. With goals by Thompson, Kopistecki and Bagbonon, it brought Immaculata within three with under 10 minutes to go. Misericordia answered back with two consecutive goals. Bagbonon tallied his fourth goal on the afternoon with just over two minutes to, as the Cougars held on to a 15-11 final.
Immaculata continues its non-conference slate as they travel to Widener on Wednesday starting at 4 p.m.
