Mighty Macs' Run Comes To A Close In CSAC Final

RADNOR, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's basketball team's magical season came to a close Saturday night in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament championship game with an 88-59 loss to top-seeded Cabrini College at Nerney Field House.
 
Adriana Sciascia led the Mighty Macs with 17 points while adding seven rebounds and four steals. Brittany Merkle once again recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Sara Smith was the final Immaculata scorer in double digits with 10.
 
Cabrini started the game hot scoring the first 10 points. Immaculata got on the scoreboard at the 16:11 mark as Merkle put in a layup. However, the Cavaliers made an 18-4 run that gave them a 28-6 advantage at the midway point of the first half.
 
Immaculata was able to outscore Cabrini, 19-14, during the final 9:38 of the opening stanza, but it was the Cavaliers with a 42-25 lead at halftime.
 
Sciascia had 12 of the Mighty Macs' 28 first-half points, including a 6-for-7 effort at the foul line.
 
Despite similar numbers from the field during the second half, Cabrini continued to grow its lead against Immaculata. While Immaculata was 12-for-37 (.324) from the field, Cabrini hit 14 of 27 (.518). The biggest difference was that the Cavaliers went to the foul line 21 times and converted on 16 shots (.762). The Mighty Macs made 9 of 11 (.818) free throws during the final 20 minutes.
 
Cabrini had four players score in double figures, led by Brittany Sandone's 19 points and Annie Rivituso with 18.
 
Immaculata closes the 2013-14 season with a 19-9 overall record.
 
Cabrini earns the CSAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament and will await its next opponent when the field is announced on Monday. The Cavaliers improved to 23-4.
