IMMACULATA, Pa.- In their first night game at Draper Walsh Stadium, the Immaculata field hockey team hosted Scranton (8-0) in non-conference action, and in an up-and-down game, the Royals scored four second half goals to take command in a 5-2 victory. Immaculata (2-5) got a great performance out of sophomore
Lindsay Cras who scored her first goal of the season and assisted on a goal scored by sophomore
Patsy Murphy.
The Immaculata defense played very well throughout the first half holding Scranton scoreless until the 31
st minute when Cassie Mullen took a side angle shot that deflected off of freshman goalie
Christine McIntyre for a 1-0 Royal lead. It was the only blemish on McIntyre's very well-played half as she collected seven saves.
The Mighty Macs wasted no time in tying the game as 37 seconds later, Cras broke free from the defense and carried the ball from midfield, made one move, and beat the goalie for her first goal of the season as the two teams went tied 1-1 into the locker room.
To start the second half, the Royals came out with heavy offensive pressure as they put five shots on goal in the first three minutes, but freshman goalie
Sarah Pasternak was up for the task stopping all five, including a penalty stroke to keep the game tied 1-1.
The Royals finally got past Pasternak as they scored back-to-back goals in the 42
nd and 43
rd minutes to make it 3-1, but for the second time Immaculata responded.
Cras again got possession of the ball near midfield and charged toward the net when she hit a centering pass that Murphy deflected in for her team-leading third goal of the year in the 45
th minute to make it 3-2.
In a wild back-and-forth second half, the Royals again came back with a goal as Cassie Mullin scored her second goal of the game to make it a 4-2 before Scranton added another in the 58
th minute for a three-goal lead that they would hold onto for the win.
Pasternak played well under consistent pressure in the second half making seven saves.
The Mighty Macs will get right back into action with a road contest at Stevenson on Thursday at 7 p.m.
