Women's Soccer Falls to Widener, 2-0

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata kicked off a two-game non-conference home stand by hosting Widener on Tuesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium, and the Pride (3-0-1) scored two first half goals that were too much to overcome for the Mighty Macs (0-4-0) as they fell 2-0.  Junior goalie Meghan McCurnin made some great saves to keep the Mighty Macs in the game and finished with 12 overall.

Widener struck first in the 25th minute as Karen Thomas took a shot from the top of the box that snuck just over McCurnin's hand and under the crossbar for the game's first tally.

McCurnin had kept the game scoreless moments earlier when she stopped consecutive shots on a breakaway to keep the Pride off the scoreboard.

Following the Widener goal, Immaculata came back with a great chance of their own, but a lengthy shot by freshman Shelby Clare hit off the crossbar to keep Widener in front 1-0.

Widener extended their lead to 2-0 before the break as Brittany Allison weaved through the Immaculata defense and put a shot into the lower corner of the net just past the outstretched arm of McCurnin with 28 seconds left in the first half.

At the start of the second half, Widener continued to apply pressure, but McCurnin made back-to-back diving saves to keep the Mighty Macs down just two goals.

The defense continued to play well throughout the second half, but the offense was unable to breakthrough against the stout Pride defense as Widener took the non-conference game 2-0.

The Mighty Macs will stay home as they play host to Richard Stockton this coming Saturday at 1 p.m. for the final non-conference home match of the season.
