IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (7-4, 3-1 CSAC) suffered their first CSAC defeat in a double overtime thriller by a score of 18-17 to Marywood (3-7, 3-2 CSAC). Sarah Caughy scored with 13 seconds remaining in the second overtime, moments after Immaculata's
Katie Cook (4 G, 1 A) hit the post on the other end.
The teams were tied 6-6 at half, 15-15 after regulation and 17-17 after the first overtime before the Pacers finally broke through with the game-winner in the second extra session.
Allison Jakavick led the Mighty Macs with five goals (two assists) and
Caitlin Caruso (3 G, 1 A) scored both goals in overtime to keep Immaculata in the game.
Junior goalie
Nicole Behrndt was outstanding in goal, making 11 saves, with most of them coming late in the second half and in the overtime periods.
Senior
Anne Moulton was also crucial in slowing down the Pacer attack on defense with eight groundballs and four caused turnovers.
Sophomore
Danielle Lopez (2 G, 3 A, 7 DC, 5 GB), and freshmen
Kelly Lapp (2 G, 2 A) and
Shannon Neill (1 G, 2 A) accounted for the rest of the goals for the Mighty Macs.
Immaculata trailed 5-1 early as Marywood took control, but following a timeout, Immaculata scored the next four goals to tie the game at 5-5 with just under four minutes to go until half. Marywood would score to end the run, but Neill netted her lone goal with four seconds left to send the game tied 6-6 to the locker room.
In the opening 9:43 of the second half, the teams scored 13 goals between the two of them. Immaculata scored the first one of the half on a Jakavick goal on an assist from Cook, but Marywood responded with three straight to take a two goal lead at 9-7. The Mighty Macs would tie it at 10-10, 11-11 and 12-12.
The Pacers would then take the lead back getting it as large as 15-13 with 12:24 left in the game. However, the Lopez scored with 10 minutes left and Cook tied the game on an assist from Lopez with just over six minutes remaining. The teams would go scoreless the rest of regulation to send the game to overtime tied 15-15.
In the first overtime, Caruso scored the first and last goal around two Marywood goals to send the game to the pivotal second overtime.
Immaculata travels to Gwynedd-Mercy this Saturday at noon looking to get back in the win column.
NOTES: Cook moved into fourth place on the all-time points list with 106 for her career … Moulton is now tied for second in career groundballs with 158, just two away from becoming the all-time leader … Moulton is also second in caused turnovers with 70 … Lopez is alone in second in draw controls for her career with 93 … As a team, Immaculata has the most points with 270 and assists with 92 in a single season in IU history.
