Immaculata Storms Back To Take Series Opener

Box Score

FLEMINGTON, N.J.- Trailing 3-0 through five innings, Immaculata (10-9, 4-4 CSAC) scored the final eight runs of the game on their way to an 8-3 victory over Centenary (12-12-1, 4-5 CSAC) in the opener of a three-game weekend conference series.  Freshman designated hitter Michael Lascomb (3-for-5, R, RBI) hit a two-out RBI single to give the Mighty Macs a 4-3 lead as part of a three-run seventh inning.  Senior pitcher Richard Cusic (3-2) was solid on the mound going seven innings surrendering three runs (two earned) while striking out four.

Junior catcher Patrick Boulware and junior shortstop Joe DiGiaimo (RBI) each collected three hits as well on the afternoon to lead the 14-hit attack.

The Mighty Macs entered the pivotal top of the seventh trailing 3-1, but a two-out rally gave them a lead they would not relinquish.  Junior center fielder Alex Kobylinski (2-for-3, 2 R) was hit by a pitch with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Boulware laid down a perfect bunt single to put runners on the corners when sophomore right fielder Matt Lawson (R, RBI) made it 3-2 with an RBI groundout.  Senior first baseman Matt Hardy (2-for-4, R, RBI, BB, SB) then ripped a game-tying single to center field to score Boulware.  Hardy then swiped second base and Lascomb brought him home as the eventual game-winning run with a single to right.

Immaculata put the game away in the top of the ninth with four unearned runs.  They loaded the bases with nobody out on a hit, error, and walk before back-to-back strikeouts threatened to end the rally.  Freshman third baseman Robert Wallace then skied a pop-up that pitcher Chad Frankenfield was unable to handle allowing all three runs to score.  DiGiaimo drove home Wallace to provide an extra insurance run to make it 8-3.

Freshman pitcher Nicholas Campione threw two scoreless innings, striking out three, to collect his third save of the season.

The Cyclones claimed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on three hits, an error, and a walk.  Centenary extended their lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single.  Cusic would settle down and not allow another run in the rest of his outing, despite a runner reaching scoring position in each of those innings.

The Mighty Macs had a baserunner in four of the first five innings, but were unable to score until the sixth when junior second baseman Elijah Vottero (1-for-4, RBI) knocked in Lascomb with a single.

Immaculata will look to sweep Centenary tomorrow when they host the Cyclones for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
