Baseball Finishes Season With Sweep Of Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa.-
Immaculata baseball (16-17, 7-11 CSAC) wrapped up their season with a sweep of a doubleheader and weekend series over Cairn (7-30, 1-17 CSAC) by scores of 13-3 and 13-6.  In the first game, junior pitcher Bryan McHale pitched a complete game with eleven strikeouts tying his season-high.  In the second game, the Mighty Macs broke open a 7-6 game with a six-run seventh inning to sweep the doubleheader and finish the season on a three-game winning streak.
 
Freshman third baseman Rob Wallace (7-for-9, 3 RBIs, 3 R, 3 SB) and junior shortstop Joe DiGiaimo (5-for-7, 4 RBI, 2 R) paced the Immaculata offense which scored 26 runs and 30 hits on the day.  In the series, the Mighty Macs scored 39 runs and had 48 hits overall.
 
In the first game, junior second baseman Elijah Vottero (2-for-4, RBI, R) hit a sacrifice fly to score senior first baseman Matt Hardy (2-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBIs) and Wallace hit an RBI double to score DiGiaimo to give the Mighty Macs a 2-0 lead after one inning.
 
The Mighty Macs tacked on three more in the top of the third with an RBI groundout from freshman designated hitter Michael Lascomb (0-for-3, R, RBI) and an RBI single by Wallace.
 
The Highlanders would get three runs in the bottom of the third to make it 5-3, but McHale (4-4) retired the final 13 hitters of the game to put away Cairn.
 
Immaculata consistently put runs up the rest of the game to pull away from the Highlanders.  They produced two runs in the fourth, got an RBI double from freshman catcher Rick DiDomenico (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, R) in the fifth, and they added four more in the seventh.  Hardy hit a two-run double to cap the scoring in the first game.
 
In the second game, Immaculata again jumped out front with a run in the first on an RBI single by DiGiaimo (4-for-4 RBIs).
 
The Mighty Macs added three more in the second.  Matthew Lawson (1-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBIs) hit a sacrifice fly and Hardy (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) hit an RBI triple to cap the inning.  Senior catcher T.J. Warner (2-for-3, RBI, R) hit an RBI single in the third to extend the IU advantage to 5-0. 
 
Cairn got a run off freshman pitcher John Ryan in the third to make it 5-1.
 
The Mighty Macs added one more in the fourth on an RBI single by DiGiaimo and one more in the fifth to get their lead to as big as 7-1.
 
Cairn battled back with two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to trim the lead all the way to 7-6.  Ryan (3-1) went four and two thirds and struck out three.
 
Immaculata put the game away in the seventh with six runs as they batted around.  Lawson hit an RBI single, DiGiaimo hit a two-run double, and Wallace (4-for-5, 2 R, RBI) hit an RBI single to highlight the inning.
 
Senior Aaron Dietrich finished off the game with on scoreless inning.
 
The Mighty Macs missed out on the CSAC postseason tournament by a tiebreaker with Centenary.  The Cyclones topped Immaculata in two of their three games this season.
