GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – A strong performance by the host Griffins led Gwynedd-Mercy College to a 16-8 win against Immaculata University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) men's lacrosse action Wednesday.
Immaculata (2-8, 1-1 CSAC) led throughout the first half and had a 6-5 lead at halftime against Gwynedd-Mercy.
Dante Tuscai started the scoring for the Mighty Macs with the first of his three goals at the 9:14 mark of the first quarter. After Gwynedd-Mercy tied the game at 1-1,
Bhelly Bagbonon scored two goals for the Mighty Macs inside one minute to take a two-goal advantage at the end of the first stanza.
The Griffins (6-4, 2-1) knotted the score at 3-all before
Ben Tuscai and
Dante Tuscai scored back-to-back goals to give the Mighty Macs a two-goal cushion (5-3) once again. Immaculata's lead didn't last long as Bill Beck scored two-straight goals for Gwynedd-Mercy and tied the contest for the third time with 3:10 to play in the first half.
However, Bagbonon's third goal of the first half with 49 seconds left before halftime sent the visitors into the locker room with a 6-5 advantage.
Gwynedd-Mercy then outscored Immaculata 6-0 during the third quarter, and scored nine consecutive goals overall to lead 14-6 by the 12:16 mark in the fourth quarter. The Mighty Macs stopped the run with a
Dante Tuscai goal with 11:45 remaining in the game to cut the Griffins' lead to 14-7. Immaculata later added a goal from Bagbonon with 7:46 to play.
Bagbonon finished with a team-high four goals.
Dante Tuscai had three goals and one assist, while
Ben Tuscai finished with one goal and three assists.
Jon Diodati played all 60 minutes in goal for Immaculata making nine saves.
Immaculata next travels to Centenary on Saturday for a 12 p.m. face-off with the Cyclones.
