BOX SCORE
IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata baseball team (4-5) used a consistent and balanced offensive attack in a 9-1 home victory over visiting Chestnut Hill (6-8) on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs scored in six of eight innings and six different players had RBIs on the day.
Freshman designated hitter Michael Lascomb continued his torrid start to the season going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a stolen base and a run scored. Senior first baseman
Matt Hardy (2 RBIs, R), junior catcher
Patrick Boulware (2 R, RBI), and junior second baseman Elijah Vottero (2 R, RBI) all had two hits as part of 10 total for Immaculata.
Junior starting pitcher
Bryan McHale earned the victory with six shutout innings on the mound despite moving in and out of trouble all day.
The Griffins had a base runner on in every inning and runners in scoring position in five of those innings, but McHale battled through and didn't allow the Griffins to get on the board. Chestnut Hill left 16 runners on base in the game.
The Mighty Macs got the scoring started quickly in the top of the first on an RBI single by Lascomb that scored junior center fielder
Alex Kobylinski (1-for-5, R, RBI, SB), who led the first off with a single.
In the bottom of the third, Immaculata added to their lead with a two-out rally. Hardy hit a single to left center before Lascomb came up with his second run-scoring hit of the day on an RBI double over the center fielder's head to make it 2-0 Mighty Macs. Boulware then laced a single up the middle to score Lascomb to extend the Immaculata advantage to 3-0. The Mighty Macs would add one more when Boulware scored from second base on an error by the catcher Brendan Looby.
The Mighty Macs kept up the offensive pressure in the fourth with another two-out hit, this one an RBI double off the bat of sophomore right fielder Matthew Lawson (1-for-3, RBI, R) to score Vottero who singled to start the inning as Immaculata increased their advantage to 5-0 through four innings.
McHale (1-0) surrendered five hits while striking out five and walking four on the day.
The Mighty Macs provided some insurance for the bullpen in the bottom of the sixth without the benefit of a hit. Kobylinski hit a groundball that scored Vottero to make it 6-0 through six innings of play.
The Griffins threatened again in the seventh loading the bases with one out, but senior relief pitcher
Richard Cusic induced a fly out and fielder's choice to keep Chestnut Hill off the scoreboard.
The Immaculata offense kept swinging the bats well in the seventh inning as Vottero added to his productive day with an RBI single scoring Boulware who reached on a single as the Mighty Macs led 7-0.
After the Griffins got on the board in the top of the eighth, Hardy put the game away with an RBI triple followed by a sacrifice fly off the bat of Lascomb for his third RBI of the day.
Cusic closed out the game with three innings, surrendering just one run for the save.
The Mighty Macs have started the home schedule 2-0, but will go back on the road this Tuesday when they travel to Eastern for a 4 p.m. start.
