Mighty Macs Win Big in Home Opener

IMMACULATA, Pa.-
The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (1-1) picked up their first win in their home opener with a 19-10 victory over visiting Rutgers-Camden (2-2).  The Mighty Macs were led by eight points by sophomore Danielle Lopez (4 G, 4 A) and seven points from freshman Kelly Lapp (5 G, 2 A) as Immaculata scored the most goals since they scored 24 in a win over Lancaster Bible last season.
 
The Mighty Macs also had multi-goal games from junior Katie Cook (one assist) and freshman Shannon Neill (two assists) who had three goals each.
 
Juniors Aneesa Hill, Amanda Grahn, and Caitlin Caruso all scored their first goals of the season and sophomore Alyssa Petito had two points on one goal and one assist.
 
Junior Nicole Behrndt earned the win in goal with five saves.
 
The Mighty Macs raced out to a 2-0 lead just five minutes before Rutgers-Camden quickly tied it just four minutes later.
 
Immaculata then netted four straight goals, two from Katie Cook to extend their advantage to 6-2 halfway through the opening half.  The Mighty Macs would carry a 9-6 advantage into the locker room.
 
The Raptors then got as close as 10-8 with 27 minutes remaining after two free position goals.  However, the Mighty Macs had an answer again, this time with a 5-0 run.
 
Hill, Lapp, Caruso, and two from Neill provided the offense for the run as the Mighty Macs built a seven-goal advantage with just fifteen minutes remaining.
 
After the Raptors scored to end the run, Immaculata scored four out of the next five goals to reach the final decision. 
 
Cook led the team with eight draw controls followed by Lopez with six.  With her six draw controls, Lopez moved into fourth place all-time in Immaculata history with 54 draw controls.
 
Senior Anne Moulton led the team with eight groundballs and five caused turnovers.
 
The Mighty Macs will look to make it two in a row on Tuesday when they travel to SUNY-Maritime at 7 p.m.
 
NOTES: Cook moved into a tie for 5th place all-time in points with 69 for her career.
