Baseball Drops Doubleheader At Neumann

BOX SCORE GAME 1
BOX SCORE GAME 2

ASTON, Pa.
- The Immaculata baseball team (7-8, 2-3 CSAC) travelled to Neumann looking to avenge a one-run loss on Friday afternoon, but the Knights (12-3, 3-0 CSAC) came away with two victories by scores of 3-2 and 9-3 to sweep the three-game weekend set.  In the first game, junior pitcher Bryan McHale (6 Ks) pitched very well, going all six innings surrendering just one earned run, but he was bested by Russ Gilliam in a first game pitchers' duel.

In the second game, Neumann jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the second inning and never looked back in winning game two.

On the day, junior shortstop Joe DiGiaimo tallied four RBIs to lead the Mighty Mac offense.

In the first game, Neumann picked up two unearned runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead.  Junior catcher Patrick Boulware (2-for-4, RBI, SB) hit an RBI single in the top of the third to score junior left fielder Billy Gaines (1-for-2, R) to cut the Knight lead in half at 2-1.

The Mighty Macs tied the game up in the top of the fourth when freshman third baseman Rob Wallace (2-for-3, R) and DiGiaimo (2-for-2, RBI) hit back-to-back doubles as the game was tied 2-2 heading to the bottom of the fourth.

McHale settled down and allowed just one baserunner in the fourth and fifth innings.  However in the sixth, left fielder Matt Sheneman hit a two-out RBI single to break the tie and give the Knights a 3-2 lead.  In the top of the seventh, senior first baseman Matt Hardy (1-for-3) hit a two-out single, but Boulware grounded out to end the first game.

In the second game, Neumann scored two runs in the bottom of the first and six in the bottom of the second to jump out to an 8-0 advantage.  Junior pitcher Alex Kobylinski surrendered seven runs in an inning and third of work.

The Mighty Macs got on the board in the fourth when DiGiaimo (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) hit another double, this one scoring Hardy (1-for-3, R) and Wallace (1-for-3, R), to make it 8-2.

In the sixth, DiGiaimo hit another RBI single to make it 8-3 before the Mighty Macs loaded the bases with one out, but a fielder's choice and a strikeout ended the threat.

Freshman Nicholas Campione pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Immaculata will look to snap their three game losing streak this Tuesday when they travel to Marywood for a 3 p.m. start.
