IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (4-2, 1-0 CSAC) got off to a great start in conference play with a thrilling 17-16 victory over Centenary (2-3, 0-1 CSAC) on Wednesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium. Freshmen
Shannon Neill (4 goals, 5 assists) and
Kelly Lapp (5 goals, 4 GBs) continued the outstanding start to their careers with big offensive days.
The five assists by Neill is a program record for a single game and her nine points is second most all-time in a single game in Immaculata women's lacrosse history.
The teams were dead locked at 14-14 with 17 minutes remaining in the game when Centenary's Alysia Pinkerton put the Cyclones up 15-14. However, the Mighty Macs scored the next three goals to take the 17-15 lead. Sophomore
Danielle Lopez (three goals), junior
Caitlin Caruso (one goal, five GBs), and junior
Katie Cook (two goals, two assists, four GBs, four DCs) accounted for the game-changing goals.
Pinkerton netted another goal to cut the lead to 17-16 with just under nine minutes to go, but the Immaculata defense held to preserve the CSAC win.
The Mighty Macs trailed early in the game going down 3-0 three and a half minutes into the game, but they scored four of the next five goals to even the score up at 4-4 with 17 minutes to go in the first half. Freshman
Allison Jakavick (two goals), Neill, Cook, and Lopez scored the early goals to get the Mighty Macs back in the game.
With the score tied 7-7 with just over ten minutes left in the first half, Immaculata again scored four out of five to close the first half leading 12-8. Lapp netted all four goals for IU during that stretch.
Junior
Nicole Behrndt earned her fourth win in goal.
The Mighty Macs will move back into non-conference play with a game at Arcadia at noon on Saturday before hosting Notre Dame in their next CSAC game on Tuesday.
