BOX SCORE
EWING, N.J.- In the second game of a doubleheader against The College of New Jersey (1-1), the Mighty Macs staged a ninth inning rally to get the go-ahead run to the plate, but the Lions would hold on 8-6 to earn a split of the doubleheader. Junior
Patrick Boulware (2-for-4, 3 RBIs, 2 R) finished off a big day with a three-run homer to bring the Mighty Macs within two in their final at bat, but Immaculata was unable to complete the big comeback.
Boulware went 5-for-8 in two games today with 5 RBIs. Freshman Robert Wallace also contributed three hits in four at bats in the second game, including an RBI to help lead the Mighty Mac offense.
Immaculata fell into an early hole as TCNJ put three runs on the board in the first two innings against junior starting pitcher
Bryan McHale highlighted by Mike Murphy's two-run home run. However, the Mighty Macs would fight back to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of the sixth.
In the fourth, Wallace and junior shortstop
Joe DiGiaimo (2-for-5, RBI) each hit RBI singles to make it 3-2. In the top half of the sixth, freshman designated hitter Michael Lascomb (1-for-4, 2 R) would score an unearned run on a wild pitch to even things up.
McHale settled down nicely to throw four shutout frames to finish out his day. He went six innings surrendering three runs (two earned) while striking out three and walking one.
Senior
Joseph Caria came on in relief in the bottom of the seventh and the Lions broke out with a four-run inning. A two-run single, followed by a two-run double off the bat of Scott Kelly broke the tie and propelled TCNJ to a 7-3 lead. Caria (0-1) would only go the one inning and was hit with the loss.
The Mighty Macs loaded the bases in the top of the eighth with two outs, but a strikeout ended the threat. The Lions would add an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning off junior pitcher
Kirk Wenzler to give them a comfortable 8-3 lead heading to the ninth.
The Mighty Macs did not go down easy as junior center fielder
Alex Kobylinski (2-for-5, R) and senior first baseman
Matt Hardy (1-for-3, R) each reached with one out. Following a fielder's choice, Boulware blasted his first home run of the season with two outs to make it 8-6. Wallace followed with a single before a DiGiaimo double put the tying run on second base, but junior second baseman Elijah Vottero grounded out to end the game as the teams split the weekend doubleheader.
The Mighty Macs are now slated to play their home opener on March 6
th at 3 p.m. against Haverford.
