LANGHORNE, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's basketball team claimed a 60-41 victory in its season finale against Cairn University on the road Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.
With the win, Immaculata head coach Patty Canterino tied former Immaculata head coach and Naismith Hall of Famer Cathy Rush's school record for most wins at 149.
The Mighty Macs had three seniors playing in their final collegiate game tonight. Senior guard
Chrissy Esbensen led all scorers with 19 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward
Katie Durkin grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds to go along with nine points and two blocked shots, while fellow senior forward
Jackie Deegler posted nine points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Immaculata scored the opening nine points, and held a double-digit lead (15-5) by the 13:37 mark of the first half. The Mighty Macs pushed their lead to as large as 19 points before taking a 32-14 lead into halftime.
Immaculata took its largest advantage of the contest, 49-18, with 10:56 to play in the contest. However, Cairn made a 10-2 run during the final four minutes to trim a 27-point Mighty Mac lead to 19.
Cairn (2-22, 2-14) was led by two players who recorded double-double performances. Erin Greenwood led the Highlanders with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Ruth Nelson posted 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Immaculata concludes the 2012-13 season with an overall record of 9-16 and 7-9 record in CSAC play.
