Immaculata Defeats Cedar Crest On The Road, 94-41

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Junior guard Sara Smith led three scorers in double figures with a game-high 23 points as visiting Immaculata University defeated host Cedar Crest College, 94-41, in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action Monday night.
 
Immaculata (4-1, 1-0 CSAC) won its second straight overall while Cedar Crest (1-6, 0-1) opened conference play with a loss.
 
The Mighty Macs shot 58.5 percent from the field in the game (38-for-65) and sank 13 of 15 free throws while limiting the Falcons to just 24.5 percent shooting from the floor (12 of 49). The hosts made just seven baskets in the first 20 minutes as the visitors jumped out to a 41-21 lead by halftime. Immaculata kept applying the pressure, putting up 53 points in the second half to put the game away.
 
Three of Immaculata's five starters were in double figures. Alison Zimny posted 16 points, and Mackie Fitzgerald added 14. Smith finished off a double-double on the evening with 11 rebounds to go along with her 23 points. She also recorded four steals in 25 minutes of action. Smith was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line, registering a perfect night shooting the ball.
 
Emily Bell recorded eight points and four rebounds off the bench in nine minutes of action.
 
Immaculata held a 45-23 advantage in rebounding and harassed Cedar Crest into 26 turnovers.
 
The Mighty Macs host Rosemont at Alumnae Hall on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in their first CSAC home contest of the young season.
