Alison Zimny poured in 21 points and
Sara Smith added 20 but it was not enough as Immaculata University women's basketball dropped its final game before the holiday break at Ursinus College Wednesday evening, 90-75.

The Mighty Macs (6-2) were paced by Zimny's 21 points which included five three-pointers. Zimny also had two assists and two steals. Smith finished with 20 points, including a 12-for-13 performance from the foul line, and five rebounds.

Brittany Merkle led the team on the glass with eight rebounds while recording 12 points and three blocked shots.
Mackie Fitzgerald was the fourth Immaculata player to reach double digits in scoring with 10 points and a team-best three assists.

Ursinus (5-3) scored the opening bucket, and Immaculata was able to answer with a layup from Zimny to tie the score at 2-2. That would prove to be the only tie in the contest as the Bears scored two-straight layups to regain the lead.

After Ursinus went ahead by eight (14-6) just inside the 15-minute mark, Immaculata was able to trim its deficit to four, 14-10, with two made free throws by Smith and a layup by Fitzgerald. Ursinus then pushed its lead back to as many as 12 (26-14) with 9:02 to play in the opening half. Back-to-back three's from Zimny and Fitzgerald cut the margin to six points (26-20) less than one minute later.

The Bears continued to hold the lead when the Mighty Macs rallied to come within four points of the hosts with 2:30 left in the opening half. Smith converted a three-point play and
Adriana Sciascia put in a layup to make the Ursinus lead just 34-30. However, Ursinus closed the half on a 13-5 run, including three trey's, during the closing minutes to lead 47-35 at halftime.

Zimny opened the second half with a three for the Mighty Macs to close the gap to nine points (47-38). Ursinus scored its first basket of the second half at the 18:44 mark to ahead by 11 (49-38), and the hosts would hold a double-figure lead the rest of the way.

Immaculata returns to the court on Friday, January 3, when its takes on Wilkes at 5 p.m. at the Moravian Winter Classic.
