Mighty Macs Suffer First Loss Of The Season

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's basketball team took its first loss of the 2013-14 season Saturday as the Mighty Macs fell 89-64 on the road to the DeSales University Bulldogs in non-conference action.
 
Immaculata drops to 2-1 overall, while DeSales stayed undefeated at 4-0.
 
Sara Smith led the Mighty Macs with a game-high 18 points, while adding a team-best eight rebounds and three steals. Mackie Fitzgerald and Alison Zimny each finished with nine points and two assists each. Zimny also added two blocked shots and one steal. Marisa Kinsey chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
 
Immaculata held the lead during the first three minutes of the contest as Smith had five points during the first 2:37 of the game, and Brittany Merkle made a layup at the 16:48 mark to give the Mighty Macs a 7-6 edge.
 
The Bulldogs held the Mighty Macs without a basket for a three-minute span as the hosts ran out to a 17-7 lead. DeSales pushed its lead to as many as 25 (37-12) with 6:49 to play in the first half.
 
Immaculata made a 13-3 run over four minutes to cut DeSales' lead to 40-25 with 2:13 remaining in the opening stanza. The Mighty Macs went into halftime trailing by just 14 (46-32).
 
DeSales was led by a double-double from Alex Suk with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Immaculata will be in action on Tuesday night, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. against Penn State Harrisburg inside Alumnae Hall.
