Second Half Scoring Sinks IU, 4-1

Box Score

WASHINGTON, N.J.- The Immaculata women's soccer team travelled to Centenary (6-8-2, 6-3-1 CSAC) on Saturday afternoon looking to bounce back from their defeat on Tuesday, but the Cyclones scored four second half goals and took the conference matchup 4-1.  Junior Rachel Gannon scored a second half goal to pull the Mighty Macs (6-9-2, 5-3-2 CSAC) within one, but the Cyclones would score twice more to put the game out of reach.

After a scoreless first half, the offense for Centenary came alive in the second half.  Laura Potter scored twice, once in the 56th minute and again in the 80th minute, to give the Cyclones a 2-0 lead with ten minutes remaining.

Immaculata did not go down easily, as Gannon scored on a penalty kick in the 81st minute to bring Immaculata closer at 2-1.  The penalty kick gives Gannon two for her career, which is a new school record.

IU pushed their offense up in an effort to tie the game, but Centenary got past the defense twice more to give the Cyclones a 4-1 victory.

Junior Meghan McCurnin played the first half in goal picking up three saves and sophomore Elizabeth McBride played the second half getting six stops.

Immaculata will play the final game of the regular season on Thursday night as they host Gwynedd Mercy.  With a victory, the Mighty Macs would lock up a playoff berth for the first time since 2010.  They will also be honoring Rebecca Stack, Rachel Gannon and Amanda Markie in their final home game.

NOTES: Gannon now has 17 goals in her career, tied for fourth most, and her 25 points this season tie her for third most in a single season with Bridget Cunningham (2009).
