Big Second Half Lifts Immaculata Over Keystone, 4-2

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team rebounded from their first conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over Keystone (9-4-1, 4-4-1 CSAC) behind four second half goals.  Freshman Carly Mirarchi scored a pair of goals and junior Rachel Gannon scored a goal and had two assists to lead the offensive attack for the Mighty Macs (6-7-2, 5-1-2 CSAC).

After a scoreless first half that saw a couple chances each way, Immaculata took advantage of a couple scoring opportunities right away to take control of the game in the second half.

Sophomore Rachael Gugasian scored the first goal of her IU career in the 51st minute to give the Mighty Macs the lead.  Freshman Erica Buckley took a shot that the keeper saved, but Gugasian jumped on the rebound and gave Immaculata a 1-0 advantage.  The assist was the first of Buckley's career.

Just 41 seconds later, the Mighty Macs struck again as Mirarchi took a pass that Gannon chipped over the defense and beat the keeper for a quick 2-0 lead early in the second half.

Keystone would get on the board in the 62nd minute when the CSAC's leading scorer, Samantha Littleford, netted her 17th goal of the year as she got behind the defense and beat junior goalie Meghan McCurnin (eight saves).

The score would hold for less than eight minutes as Immaculata grew their lead back to two goals.  The keeper came out to challenge the ball, but Gannon beat her to it and scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season to continue her career-best season.

Less than three minutes later, the Mighty Macs would put the game away as Gannon (fifth assist) carried the ball deep into Giant territory and centered it for Mirarchi who scored her second goal of the game and fourth of the season.

The Giants would score one more goal in the 82nd minute, but it wasn't enough in a 4-2 Immaculata victory.

The Mighty Macs will stay home for another conference contest against Rosemont on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

NOTES: Gannon is now tied for fourth place in Immaculata history in points with 39 … Her 16 goals puts her alone in IU history … The team's five conference wins are the most since 2010 when the team went to the CSAC Championship.
