IMMACULATA, Pa. – Led by four scorers in double figures, Immaculata University's women's basketball team defeated Cedar Crest College Saturday afternoon, 84-46, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Chrissy Esbensen led the offensive charge for the Mighty Macs (7-12, 5-5 CSAC) with 19 points in just 18 minutes on the floor.
Sara Smith scored 14 points on 7-for-7 shooting from the field, and she had five assists and four rebounds.
Jackie Deegler and
Katie Durkin were the other scorers in double digits with 10 points apiece. Deegler also recorded five rebounds and three assists.
Esbensen got Immaculata started as she posted the first seven points of the contest in just one minute and 24 seconds. Esbensen's layup at the 14:39 mark of the first half gave the Mighty Macs a double-figure lead (19-8), and they would keep that double-digit margin for the remainder of the contest.
Immaculata's lead had grown to 24 (36-12) with 6:41 left in the opening half when Cedar Crest (2-18, 1-11) strung together an 8-0 run to cut the score to 36-20 with 4:40 remaining. However, the Mighty Macs came back during the closing minutes of the first half with a 13-2 spurt to take their largest lead of the half into the break, 49-22.
Adriana Sciascia dished out six assists, had three steals and grabbed five rebounds for the Mighty Macs.
Brittany Merkle led the squad on the glass with eight rebounds.
Marisa Kinsey posted nine points, and
Mackie Fitzgerald finished with four assists and three steals.
As a team, Immaculata was 21-for-63 (.587) from the field, while Cedar Crest was limited to 17-for-42 (.405).
Amber Wehry led the Falcons with 15 points, three assists and two steals.
Immaculata travels to Gwynedd-Mercy on Wednesday, Jan. 30, for a 6 p.m. tip with the Griffins.
