IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University baseball team improved to an overall mark of 11-12 and 4-4 in Colonial States Athletic Conference with a sweep over Philadelphia Biblical on Monday afternoon. The Mighty Macs captured a 9-2 win in game one before a 4-1 victory in game two.
Immaculata opened the game with three runs in the first on
Joe DiGiaimo's two-RBI single scoring
Matt Hardy and
Eli Vottero. DiGiaimo closed out the frame scoring on
TJ Warner's single.
The Mighty Macs extended the lead with a four-run third as Hardy led off the with a triple plating
Matt Bolden followed by
Greg Binfield's two-RBI single. Hardy finished the frame with a double to bring home
Joseph Knazek.
The Crimson Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs but Immaculata's two insurance runs in the sixth from TJ Wiker and DiGiaimo put the game out reach.
Greg Binfield finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and
Joe DiGiaimo went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs to lead Immaculata.
Immaculata starter
Bryan McHale lasted 4.0 innings allowed two runs on three hits.
Matt Housman came in relief to earn the win and did not allow any hits.
Alex Kobylinski pitched the final two innings only allowing one hit.
In the second game, Immaculata jumped to a 2-0 lead through two three innings before the Crimson Eagles cut the lead in the fourth with a single. The Mighty Macs broke away for the win with two tallies in the sixth inning.
DiGiaimo led off the sixth with a triple and would come around to score followed by a
Greg Binfield double that scored
Billy Gaines to earn the sweep.
DiGiaimo drove in two runs going 2-for-3 at the plate and
TJ Warner finished the game with two RBIs.
Matt Dolan pitched a complete game giving up six hits and struck out six batters.
Immaculata travels to Philadelphia Biblical to finish the series on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
