Baseball Drops Both Ends to Gwynedd-Mercy

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata University dropped both games to Gwynedd-Mercy in Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball action as the Griffins earned the three-game sweep, 4-3 and 3-2.  

Immaculata falls to an overall record of 12-15 and 5-7 while Gwynedd-Mercy improves to 17-14 and 6-6 in the CSAC.

The Griffins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opener and held the lead through three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Immaculata got on the board with a single when Matt Hardy led off with a triple and later scored on TJ Warner's sacrifice fly. The Mighty Macs added another run in the fifth from Brandon Seibert who advanced to third on Gwynedd-Mercy error and scored on Joseph Knazek's single to knot the score, 2-2.

The Griffins led off the final inning with a triple followed by a double that gave the visitors a single run to escape with the win.

Bryan McHale (1-3) took the loss in seven innings scattering five hits and struck out 11 batters.

Hardy finished 2-for-4 with one run while TJ Warner and Joseph Knazek registered one RBI each.

In the nightcap, Gwynedd-Mercy knocked in a three-run homerun to gain an early lead in the first inning. Immaculata answered in the second when Matt Bolden came around to score on Joseph Knazek's single to cut the lead, 3-1.

The Griffins added a single in the third and that would be all the visitors needed to seal the win as Brett Knazek's single tallies in the fourth and sixth inning was not be enough to prevent the sweep.

Alex Kobylinski (1-1) lasted 4.0 innings allowing four runs on seven hits. Richard Cusic pitched the final three innings allowing just one hit.

Brandon Seibert and Brett Knazek went 2-for-3 with one RBI from Seibert.

Immaculata hosts Eastern on Tuesday, April 17 for a single non-league game at 4 p.m.
