IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata University's baseball squad swept the visiting Baptist Bible Defenders in Saturday's non-conference doubleheader, 11-0 and 12-2. The Mighty Macs improved to an 8-11 overall mark while the Defenders fall to 1-12 on the season.
In the opener,
Matt Hardy was 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Immaculata while
Brett Knazek and Hardy had three RBIs each.
Immaculata plated five runs in the first inning for an early lead.
Anthony Monzo scored on
Eli Vottero's double in the second to extend the lead, 6-0, before scoring two in the third and three more in the sixth for the win.
Andrew Dietrich started the game and did not allow a hit in 2.2 innings. Alex Kobylinksi came in for Dietrich to earn the win giving up two hits in 2.1 innings.
Ernell Harley Jr. pitched the final two innings scattering three hits and struck out two batters.
In the nightcap, the Mighty Macs struck early again as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and added a single in the fourth on
Brett Knazek's double that scored Hardy.
The Defenders cut the lead in the top of the fifth plating two runs to make the score 7-2, but Immaculata exploded again with a six-run sixth to put the game out of reach.
Joseph Knazek finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored while
Brett Knazek,
Matt Bolden, and
Billy Gaines also collected two hits each.
Matt Dolan (1-0) earned the win in 4.0 innings, giving up five hits and struck out two. He was relieved in the fifth inning by
John Pedorenko who allowed two runs on two hits.
Matt Housman closed out the final 2.0 innings, only allowing one hit.
Immaculata continues non-league play at Salisbury on Sunday, April 1 for a single game at 2 p.m.
