BRIDGEWATER, N.J. -The Immaculata University baseball team split a doubleheader at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday, falling to Centenary 6-2 in the opener and rallied 6-3 in nine innings in the night cap. The Mighty Macs stand 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the league.
The Mighty Macs opened up the first game with a 2-0 lead but that would close the scoring for the remainder of the game.
Joe DiGiaimo walked and then advanced to second on a pickoff attempt and Hardy ran home for the first run of the game.
Matt Bolden reached on a fielding error that advanced DiGiaimo to third who then scored on
Brett Knazek's single.
Centenary responded with four runs in the first and a single in the fourth to earn the win.
Bryan McHale pitched a complete game for the loss allowing six runs on seven hits.
In game two, the Mighty Macs took an early lead again on
Matt Bolden's single to right field that plated
Eli Vottero. Centenary responded with two runs in second to gain the lead.
Immaculata capitalized on two Centenary errors that scored Vottero again in the top of the third to tie the game, 2-2. DiGiaimo scored off of Knazek's sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to regain the lead but Centenary's single in the bottom of the fifth sent the game into extra innings.
Immaculata scored three unearned runs in the ninth to steal the win. DiGiaimo reached on an error, stole second, and advanced to third on Bolden's single.
Joseph Knazek grounded out to third base and DiGiaimo scored.
Anthony Monzo's two-RBI single scored
Billy Gaines and
Brandon Seibert to close out the game.
Monzo finished 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and Bolden went 2-for-4 in the win.
Brett Knazek pitched a complete game to earn the win allowing three runs on six hits and struck out seven batters.
Immaculata is back in action on Friday, March 23 for a single game versus Marywood at 3 p.m.
