IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's baseball team dropped its home opener and first Colonial States Athletic Conference contest of the season to Centenary. The Mighty Macs scored three runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth but Immaculata's rally was thwarted as they dropped a hard-fought 11-10 decision.
With the loss, the Mighty Macs drop to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC. The visiting Cyclones improve their mark to 6-7 and 1-0 within the conference.
Matt Hardy and T.J. Warner each posted four hits in the loss for the Mighty Macs. Hardy also totaled two RBIs and
Joe DiGiaimo had a team-best three RBIs.
Immaculata entered the seventh inning trailing 11-2 until Warner's single scored
Eli Vottero followed by DiGiaimo's triple that plated Warner and DiGiaimo scored the third run of the frame on a Centenary error.
Matt Hardy's triple in the eighth triggered the comeback that scored Vottero. Warner's single to centerfield plated Hardy to cut the lead 11-7.
Matt Bolden's two-RBI single scored DiGiaimo and Warner to complete a four-run eighth. Immaculata scored a single in the ninth on Hardy's double but it was not enough to knock off the Cyclones.
Richard Cusic (1-2) picked up the loss as he allowed nine runs on 12 hits in just 3.0 innings of work.
Alex Kobylinski pitched in relief giving up two runs on six hits in 4.0 innings.
Joseph Caria finished the game and did not allow any hits and struck out two batters.
Immaculata finishes the three-game series at Centenary on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
