KINGSTON, Pa.- The Immaculata University baseball team split a non-league Sunday doubleheader at Wilkes, falling in the first game, 12-8, but bounced back with a big 14-7 victory in the second game.
Matt Bolden's home run to left field put the Mighty Macs on the board first but Wilkes responded with five runs in the bottom of the first. Immaculata continued to cut the lead, 5-3, with an unearned run in the third and fourth from
Greg Binfield and
Billy Gaines.
The Colonels' bats came alive in the fifth notching seven runs to take a comfortable lead, 12-3. Immaculata rallied in the seventh using Rich DiPrimo's single which was followed by
Matt Hardy's grand slam that scored Bolden,
Joe DiGiaimo, and T.J Wiker but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Hardy went 2-for-4 at the plate with a team-high four RBI.
Andrew Dietrich started the game allowing seven runs on eight hits across four innings for the loss.
John Pedorenko and John Caria pitched in relief.
Brett Knazek's two-RBI double started the scoring for the Mighty Macs in the second game plating Hardy and T.J. Warner.
Immaculata responded to Wilkes's single in the second inning with four runs off a double from
Brandon Seibert, who later scored on an error by Wilke's catcher. DiGiaimo crossed the plate off a single from
Matt Hardy before Knazek's second double of the game once again scored Hardy and T.J. Warner.
The Mighty Macs entered the fifth inning with a 10-4 lead after Bolden notched another three-RBI homerun in the third followed by a single from Hardy in the fourth. Wilkes added three runs in the fifth but Immaculata's four runs in the sixth insured the win.
Matt Hardy finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI.
Joe DiGiaimo finished 2-for-5 and Knazek went 4-for-4 with a team-high seven RBI.
Richard Cusic lasted 4.2 innings for the win allowing seven runs on six hits.
Immaculata returns to action Tuesday at Haverford for a single game at 3:30 p.m.
