IMMACULATA, Pa. – Visiting DeSales University ended Immaculata University's four-game home winning streak on Monday night as the Bulldogs defeated the Mighty Macs, 70-57, in non-conference women's basketball action at Alumnae Hall.
Immaculata placed a trio of scorers in double figures, led by 15 points from
Alison Zimny.
Chrissy Esbensen had 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds, while
Sara Smith posted 10 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
The Mighty Macs (4-5) led in the early going until the Bulldogs tied the score at 8-8 at the 13:04 mark of the first half. DeSales (6-4) took the lead on a free throw from Brittany Pierzga (11-10) with 11:38 remaining in the opening stanza and held the lead until the final three minutes.
Trailing 21-16 with 7:34 before halftime, Immaculata went on a 12-6 run in under five minutes to retake a one-point lead, 28-27. However, two 3-pointers from Faith Gilbert gave DeSales a 33-29 edge at intermission.
After Immaculata tied the score for the fifth time during the contest (34-34) just 1:15 into the second half, DeSales went on a 14-3 spurt to put the visitors ahead, 48-37, with 14:40 left in the game. DeSales would maintain a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
DeSales placed four scorers in double figures, led by 18 points from Colleen Gavin. Gilbert finished with 14 points, Sondrine Glovas with 13 points and Alexiah Grant had 10 points. Pierzga led the Bulldogs with six rebounds and three blocks.
Immaculata takes on Ursinus on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m.
