Esbensen Reaches Milestone In Victory

IMMACULATA, Pa.
Chrissy Esbensen netted 23 points to reach the 1,000 point mark for her career as Immaculata University's women's basketball team opened the Colonial States Athletic Conference slate with a 94-29 victory opposite Notre Dame of Maryland University Monday night inside Alumnae Hall.
 
Esbensen added five rebounds and three steals to her 23 points. Her layup with 7:59 remaining in the game reached the prestigious mark for the senior guard. Lindsay Cras added 11 points as she was a perfect 5 of 5 from the field and 1-for-1 from the foul line. Jackie Deegler finished 10 points.

In all, 13 different players scored for the Mighty Macs (1-3, 1-0 CSAC). Alison Zimny had nine points and five rebounds, and Meghan Gallagher registered eight points. Mackie Fitzgerald dished out three assists and made four steals.   

The Mighty Macs shot 55.9 percent (38-68) from the field, and were 16-for-17 (.941) from the free throw line.
 
Immaculata set the tone early scoring the first nine points of the game in the opening two minutes. Notre Dame converted on back-to-back trips down the court to cut the Mighty Macs' lead to 9-4 at the 17:01 mark. That five-point margin would be the closest the teams would be the rest of the game as the Gators went on a 12 minute scoring drought. Immaculata had built a double-digit advantage (15-4) by the 12:43 mark of the first half, and the Mighty Macs extended their lead to as much as 45 (54-9) with 2:42 remaining in the half.
 
Immaculata went into the locker room at halftime with a 54-15 lead after Notre Dame scored the final six points of the first stanza.
 
Marissa White led all Notre Dame (0-4, 0-1 CSAC) scorers with 14 points and five steals. Marylu Ortiz led the Gators on the glass with seven rebounds.  
 
Immaculata plays Penn State Berks on Wednesday evening, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. at Alumnae Hall in non-conference play.
