IMMACULATA, Pa.-On Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Draper Walsh Stadium, the Immaculata Field Hockey team was unable to breakthrough against Marywood en route to a 2-0 defeat in a CSAC conference match. The loss moves Immaculata to 1-11 overall and 1-3 in conference play while Marywood improves to 2-8 on the season with a 2-2 league record.
The Pacers got the scoring started in the 13
th minute when Julie Kowalski made a run from midfield and fired a shot from the top of the circle that found the far right corner of the net to give Marywood a 1-0 advantage.
Immediately following the Marywood goal, the Mightys Macs put some consistent pressure on the cage. The best chance came when
Tiffany Lockfeld slipped behind Marywood goalie Natalie Winters, but a Pacer defender knocked the ball away from the goal mouth to maintain the one goal lead.
Marywood had another chance with just over two minutes left in the half when Kathryn Morin had a penalty shot, but
Danielle Lopez in her first career start in goal stood tall as the shot sailed just wide left of the net.
At the start of the second half, the Mighty Macs had several chances to break through with nine penalty corners in the first ten minutes, but were unable to net the equalizer. Marywood, however, cashed in on one of their few opportunities early in the half when Kathryn Morin knocked home her second goal of the year on a loose ball off a penalty corner to extend the Pacer lead to 2-0.
Immaculata was able to sustain consistent offensive pressure all day with 23 shots, but several were blocked off in front and those that got through were knocked away by Winters. Ashley O'Donnell led the team with 8 shots.
Lopez played very well in her first career start in the cage stopping 7 shots.
The Mighty Macs will take a break from conference play to host Wilson College at 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.
