ASTON, Pa.- The Immaculata University baseball team swept of a pair of conference games from Neumann University on Saturday afternoon in the final regular season doubleheader. The Mighty Macs won the opener 8-3 and claimed the second game, 3-1, in eight innings.
Aaron Dietrich (4-2) went the distance on the hill for Immaculata allowing three runs on four hits.
Neumann (28-10, 11-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Saturday's opener and added a single run in the second which would conclude the Knight's scoring efforts in the first game. Immaculata's bats came alive knocking in four runs in the third inning. Joe DiGiaimo singled to center field scoring Patrick Boulware to give Immaculata another run in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.
The Mighty Macs capitalized on a pair of errors by the Knights in the six inning tallying two runs by Boulware and Billy Gaines. At the top of the seventh, Boulware tripled to center field that scored Gaines for his second run of the game.
Boulware finished 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring three runs. Eli Vottero and Joe Rawlings finished 2-for-4 while Vottero collected a team-high three RBI. Immaculata (18-13, 11-7) collected a team total of 14 hits while limiting Neumann to only four hits.
In the nightcap, Neumann took the lead first scoring a single run in the fourth inning. Immaculata's Matt Hardy answered with a homerun in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game, 1-1.
In the eighth inning, Gaines's RBI double to center scored Matt Bolden and Dave News to claim the 3-1 victory. Alex Kobylinski started on the mound lasting 6.2 innings. He allowed six hits and walked four batters. Richard Cusic (3-0) came in relief to earn the win in the final inning not allowing any hits.
Immaculata will face Gwynedd-Mercy in the first round of the CSAC tournament on Wednesday, May 11 with a time to be determined.
