IMMACULATA, Pa. – For the second consecutive year Immaculata University's men's lacrosse team has earned a berth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament. The Mighty Macs enter the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed, and will play No. 1 seed Cabrini on Tuesday afternoon, May 3 at 4 p.m.
The Mighty Macs (6-8, 3-3 CSAC) will face the Cavaliers (10-5, 6-0 CSAC) for the second time in a four-day stretch when they meet in the semifinals. Cabrini and Immaculata met on the final day of the regular season on Saturday with the Cavaliers topping the Mighty Macs, 17-5.
Immaculata boasts six all-conference honorable mention selections, including several of the league's top offensive threats.
Brothers Ben and
Dante Tuscai are the Mighty Macs' leaders in assists and goals, respectively. B. Tuscai leads the team with 31 assists and 42 points this season, and has also added 11 goals. The sophomore midfielder was first in the CSAC in assists per game (2.23) and second in points per game (3.08). B. Tuscai ranked first in conference-only games in assists with 2.80 assists per game while listing third with 3.40 points per game. D. Tuscai is Immaculata's leader in goals (31) and added 10 assists for 41 points. He ranks fifth in the conference in goals per game (2.21) while listing seventh in points per game (2.86). D. Tuscai scored 18 goals and two assists for 20 points during six CSAC games, and in just league games, he ranks first in the CSAC in goals per game (3.00) and fourth in points per game (3.33).
Attackman
Joey Shallow is second on the team in both goals (27) and assists (11), and third in points (38). He ranks seventh in the conference in goals per game (1.93) and ninth in points per game (2.71). In only league games, Shallow scored eight goals and seven assists for 15 points. His seven CSAC assists ranked him eighth in the conference in assists per game (1.17). He also recorded at least one point in every CSAC contest this season.
Immaculata is led defensively by honorable mention picks
Jim Baranello and
Chris DeFeo. Baranello has started 10 of 11 games, and leads Immaculata in both ground balls (39) and caused turnovers (25). He has also scored two goals. DeFeo has played in 14 games this season, scooping up 25 ground balls and forcing 14 turnovers.
Max Bassett and
Dan Klodarska have also played a key part in the Mighty Macs defense. Bassett is tied with Baranello for the team lead in ground balls with 39, and he is second in caused turnovers with 23. Klodarska lists third on the team in caused turnovers with 22 while picking up 30 ground balls.
Face-off specialist
Chaz Gorman was the Mighty Macs' other honorable mention selection. Gorman has won 129 of 275 face-offs this season, and picked up 37 ground balls, ranking him third on the team.
Cabrini was also Immaculata's opponent last season in the Mighty Macs' first CSAC Tournament appearance. The Mighty Macs were seeded fourth in 2010 and traveled to the top-seeded Cavaliers in the semifinal round. Cabrini advanced with a 26-3 win, and eventually won the CSAC Championship. Cabrini has won the last 10 conference crowns.
In the league's other semifinal game on Tuesday, No. 2 Marywood hosts No. 3 seed Gwynedd-Mercy at 7 p.m. The winners of the two semifinal contests will meet in the Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday, May 7, at the highest remaining seed.
