Mighty Macs Eliminated From CSAC Tournament

BOYERTOWN, Pa.-  Immaculata University's baseball team fell to Gwynedd-Mercy, 6-4, Friday night to end its quest for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Title. The Mighty Macs conclude the season with an overall record of 19-15 and the Griffins improve to 18-15 on the season.

Immaculata's first three batters struck out before Gwynedd-Mercy pushed across four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. The Mighty Macs got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with two runs scored by Joe DiGiaimo and Matt Hardy.

The Griffins added two more in the seventh to increase its lead to 6-2. Immaculata responded in the top of the eighth when Joe Rawlings scored on a passed ball and Eli Vottero knocked in an unearned run to cut the lead to 6-4. Neither team would score for the remainder of the game.

Joe Rawlings finished 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI. Rick Gehman and DiGiaimo both went 1-for-5 while Billy Gaines collected one hit for the Mighty Macs.

Aaron Dietrich started on the mound taking the loss in 6.2 innings. He allowed six runs on four hits while striking out six batters. John Barrington earned the win for the Griffins in 7.1 innings who struck out 11 batters.

Gwynedd-Mercy advances to the CSAC Championship game and will face Keystone Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
