Women's Lacrosse Falls To Gwynedd-Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.
– Immaculata University's women's lacrosse team was defeated on Saturday afternoon by Gwynedd-Mercy College, 19-8, in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.

Kelly Kugler and Katie Cook each scored two goals to lead the Mighty Macs (3-8, 1-3 CSAC). Rebecca Whiteman tallied one goal and two assists to lead the squad with three points. Kacie O'Neill, Lauren Bigos and Jessica Gaburo all tallied one goal apiece, and Emily Hallett finished with two assists. 

Gwynedd-Mercy (8-3, 5-0 CSAC) had jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the 10:28 mark of the first half before Immaculata scored two consecutive goals just less than three minutes apart. Whiteman got the Mighty Macs on the scoreboard with 7:24 left, and Kugler scored with 4:39 remaining in the first half to cut the deficit to 6-2.

After the Griffins scored with 1:37 left in the half, Cook scored off a free position goal with 30 seconds left to send the Mighty Macs into halftime down 7-3.

Gwynedd-Mercy came out in the second half scoring six straight goals during the first 12 minutes. Immaculata responded with four straight tallies to cut the score to 13-7 with 13:01 left in the contest.

However, a five-goal run by the Griffins put the game out of reach for the Mighty Macs. Gaburo scored her force collegiate goal with 5:33 left in the game.

Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington made 11 saves while taking the loss.

Gwynedd-Mercy got four goals and three assists from Shannon Carabba and four goals and one assist from Kristi Mackin. Griffins' goalie Trisha Timony made 15 saves to earn the win.

Immaculata's contest against Arcadia that was scheduled for Monday, April 11 has been cancelled. The Mighty Macs will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13 hosting College of Notre Dame at 4 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
